March 19, (THEWILL) – The Kano State Police Command has announced plans to collaborate with local communities and neighboring states to curb the rising cases of kidnapping and cross-border crimes in the region.
The newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, made this known on Wednesday while addressing officers at the Police Officers Mess, Bompai, Kano.
Bakori emphasised that the command will boost intelligence gathering and intensify patrols along border areas to curb criminal activities.
He noted that security will be enhanced along the borders to prevent kidnapping incidents and other cross-border crimes while fostering strong partnerships with local communities to build trust and improve conflict resolution.
The commissioner revealed that after receiving a detailed briefing from his predecessor, AIG Salman Dogo Garba, and the command’s management team, a crime pattern analysis was conducted, identifying key areas of concern such as thuggery, armed robbery, drug abuse, domestic violence, kidnapping in border communities, and cybercrime.
According to Bakori, a comprehensive action plan has been developed to address these challenges, deploying proactive policing strategies to tackle thuggery, mobile phone snatching, and violent crimes.
He stated that the command will work closely with relevant stakeholders to combat drug abuse, ensuring access to rehabilitation and reintegration programs for affected individuals.
Reiterating his commitment to professionalism, integrity, and accountability, Bakori urged officers to uphold discipline and respect for human rights, adding that community support is essential in maintaining peace and stability in Kano State.
