November 03, (THEWILL) – A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Dr Musa Iliyasu Kwankwaso, has congratulated the member representing Bichi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abubakar Kabir Bichi, on his conferment of an honorary Doctorate Degree by the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma.

The university had on Saturday, conferred on Rep Bichi, the Doctor of Engineering (Honoris Causa) in recognition of his contributions to the advancement of education in Nigeria.

Kwankwaso told newsmen in Kano that the award was a milestone achieved by the lawmaker in his efforts to improve education in the country and his service to humanity in general.

He concurred with the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Armayau Hamisu, who said that Abubakar Bichi was awarded the degree in recognition of his contributions to the development of education in Nigeria.

THEWILL recalls that Abubakar Bichi offered fully funded scholarships to 21 postgraduate students to study different engineering courses in Malaysia, as well as granted scholarships to more than 5,000 Bichi indigenes studying in various universities and colleges of education in Nigeria.

Kwankwaso, a former Commissioner in the immediate past Ganduje administration in the state, said Abubakar Bichi had also commissioned a 200-capacity auditorium named after him at the Federal University of Dutsin-ma, with an assurance that he would continue to work with his colleagues at the national assembly to prioritise the improvement of academic institutions to make them globally competitive.

He also said that Bichi had over the years empowered hundreds of women and youths with start-up grants who have become self-reliant.

“While congratulating Honourable Abubakar Bichi for getting this all-important award, I wish to state that the gesture will surely spur him to render more service to humanity”, he added.

THEWILL recalls that Abubakar Bichi said during the conferment ceremony that “Universities in developed countries have utilised these means of funding to significant effect. Nigerian universities should begin to adopt these measures as well.

“I want to assure you that I will continue to do those things that made the Federal University Dutsin-ma recognise me for this honour and do them better even as I ask you to continue to support me in this regard.”
