July 11, (THEWILL) – The Terminal One of the Murtala Mohammed Airport (MMA) Ikeja, popularly known as the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) has recorded a total of 1,235,709 passengers one year after the easing of the COVID-19 lockdown.
The Terminal Manager (TM) MMA Mr. Adekunle Aderibigbe who disclosed this in an interview at the weekend in his office, also revealed that between July 2020 and June 2021 the terminal recorded 14,079 aircraft movements.
Aderibigbe stated that, at the restart of operations after easing the COVID, passengers’ turn out was low but added that recent turnout of passengers has been encouraging now.
The TM said, “We have appreciable turnout of passengers compared to last year, during the restart of activities.”
Aderibigbe, who lamented the effect of of COVID-19 revealed that activities within the terminal have improved greatly, adding that from the entrance gate to the terminal, sanity has been restored.
According to the Aderibigbe, the Authority has stopped ticketing agents from coming to the terminal building in order to improve social distancing, reduce crowd and touting.
According to him, passengers have been urged to to go online and buy flight tickets instead of patronising touts.
He Also explained that a lot of sanity has returned to the car park with the automation system of the park adding, that at the present regime, no individual can park vehicle at the car park indiscriminately.
Aderibigbe appealled to passengers to wear face masks while coming to the airport and to always observe physical distancing adding, that such safety protocols must be strictly adhered to.
He lamented that security operatives who come to the airport as escorts to VIPs have continued to breach protocols by indiscriminately parking in unauthorised areas at the airport.
