March 28, (THEWILL) – The Lagos State Government has approved the reopening of Chrisland School, Opebi branch, ahead of the school’s examinations.
Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, said the decision was to “allow students in terminal classes, JSS 3 and SS 3 prepare for their upcoming exams.”
Adefisayo noted that the decision followed an appeal by the parents of the students, inviting school teachers “to a meeting at the Conference Room of the Ministry on Thursday, 30 March, at noon.”
THEWILL recalled that the Lagos State Government had shut down the school to allow for an investigation into the death of one of its pupils, Whitney Adeniran.
The decision, according to the Ministry of Education on behalf of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was taken to allow an exhaustively unhindered investigation into the unfortunate incident.
Adeniran was reported dead on February 9, after she allegedly slumped during the school Inter House Sports competition at Agage stadium in Lagos.
However, the State Government in an autopsy report, said 12-Year-Old Adediran died of electrocution and asphyxia.
But, a statement by the Commissioner said, “In view of the circumstances surrounding the death of the child, the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice ordered a coroner’s inquest into the matter to ascertain the cause.”
Meanwhile, the State Government said it will charge Chrisland School along with some of its staff for manslaughter and negligence.
