A group known as the Coalition of Nigerian Civil Society, on Tuesday, prayed a Federal High Court to allow it hold a watching brief in the arraignment of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The Federal Government had charged Emefiele before a Federal High Court in Lagos, on a two-count charge of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
THEWILL reports that the suspended apex bank chief, on Tuesday, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
However, at the court, on Tuesday, the group, represented by five senior lawyers, stormed the court and took their seats at the back saying they are lawyers in defence of democracy.
They prayed the court to allow them hold a watching brief of court proceedings of the trial of Emefiele for Firearms Charges.
The Court, which was presided over by a vacation judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo, however, granted them the prayers to watch the proceedings.
