December 07, (THEWILL) – Norman Milton Lear, an American screenwriter and producer who produced, wrote, created and developed over 100 shows has passed away at the age of 101.
The family spokesperson, Lara Bergthold, in a statement on Wednesday, stated that the five-time Emmy Award winner and member of the Television Academy Hall of Fame died of natural causes on Tuesday, at his home in Los Angeles.
Expressing gratitude, the family said, “Thank you for the moving outpouring of love and support in honour of our wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.”
Lear launched his career as a writer in post-war radio and Television and crafted a series of 1970s hits that shattered taboos in broadcast entertainment, shaping a generation. Addressing significant social issues rarely portrayed on TV at the time, his shows delved into topics such as racism, rape, abortion, menopause, homosexuality, and religion.
