BEVERLY HILLS, March 9, (THEWILL) – An ethnic fight in new Panteka market along the Nnamdi Azikwe bypass, Kaduna State, between Igbo and Hausa traders when an Igbo man allegedly named his dog ‘Muhammad’.
THEWILL gathered that trouble started when one Muhammad bought a dog and allegedly named it ‘Ibere’ after an Igbo trader.
“Since the boy named the dog after the trader, the trader had warned him on several occasions to rename the dog, but the owner of the dog, Muhammad, refused,” Ibrahim said.
“The Igbo trader, Ibere also bought a dog and named it Muhammad, this is when all hell was let loose.”
He said that this irked some of the Hausas in the market who erroneously thought the dog was named after Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and engaged the trader which led to a fight and the closure of the market by the police who stormed the area to restore law and order after the fight broke out.
The incident occurred days after similar ethnic clashes between Yorubas and Hausas in Osun State.
Meanwhile, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has ordered the Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Idris to promptly investigate and ensure the prosecution of the culprits in the clashes in Ossun.
Osinbajo condoled those who lost their loved ones in the violence and commiserated with the people, and government of the State of Osun over the unfortunate incident praying that the Almighty God will comfort those who have become mourners in such tragic circumstances. He emphasised that resorting to acts of violence as a form of redress over grievances by any group of people anywhere in the country will not be tolerated or condoned by the Federal Government declaring that such unlawful pursuit of redress and despicable expression of grievances shall be firmly punished in line with extant laws.
