BEVERLY HILLS, February 27, (THEWILL) – National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Alhaji Abubakar Abulkadir Salam, has been sacked over allegations of corruption and highhandedness.
This was resolved at the end of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party, on Monday, in Abuja.
The party also suspended and removed from office the Deputy National Chairman – South, Calistus Okafor and the Acting National Secretary of the party, M. Julius Abure.
The meeting resolved that the affected party officials must vacate office for the survival of the party.
According to the NEC, the move became imperative because of the need to strengthen and reposition it to enable it play its constitutional role as a viable, credible and vibrant opposition party in the country.
In the interim, Comrade Bobo Atare Adou (National Vice Chairman – South South) and Oyelekan Akingbade were appointed as Acting National Chairman and Acting National Secretary of the party respectively.
THEWILL recalls that the action of the LP is similar to the actions by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which eventually tore the party into two factions.
While some are loyal to the sacked Chairman Ali Modu Sheriff, who has been reinstated by the court of law, another faction remains loyal to Ahmed Markafi, who has the backing of the state Governors.
