Manufacturing Sector Boosts Nigeria’s Tax Revenue With ₦881bn CIT Contribution In 2025

NBS

April 09, (THEWILL) — Nigeria’s manufacturing sector contributed ₦881.29 billion in Company Income Tax (CIT) in 2025, underscoring its growing role in supporting government revenue and industrial expansion.

According to the latest figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the 2025 contribution marks a significant rise from the ₦663.46 billion recorded in 2024, reflecting strong year-on-year growth and improved performance across the sector.

The data highlights manufacturing as a key pillar of Nigeria’s fiscal base, even as broader corporate tax collections showed signs of volatility toward the end of the year.

A breakdown of the figures reveals uneven but robust quarterly performance. The sector generated ₦107.90 billion in the first quarter, before surging to ₦360.20 billion in Q2, the highest quarterly contribution recorded in 2025. Collections eased to ₦271.34 billion in Q3 and declined further to ₦141.84 billion in Q4.

This downward trend mirrors developments in overall CIT collections, which fell sharply to ₦1.49 trillion in Q4 from ₦2.96 trillion in Q3, representing a 49.81 percent quarter-on-quarter drop. Despite this contraction, total CIT still recorded a 13.38 percent year-on-year increase compared to Q4 2024.

Earlier in the year, CIT collections had maintained upward momentum, rising from ₦2.78 trillion in Q2 to ₦2.96 trillion in Q3, before reversing in the final quarter amid broader economic pressures.

Overall, the data suggest that while Nigeria’s manufacturing sector continues to expand its tax contribution, macroeconomic conditions remain a key influence on quarterly performance trends.
