March 11, (THEWILL) – The Lagos State government has debunked reports that the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has appointed Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, as the General Manager of the state’s Transportation Parks and Garages Management Committee.
The purported appointment was disclosed by MC Oluomo’s son, King West, on Instagram.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, when contacted for confirmation, simply described it as “FAKE report.”
Also reacting through his Twitter handle @gboyegaakosile, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Gboyega Akosile, urged members of the public to disregard the report on the appointment, saying, “there is no such appointment.”
“Alert. Please disregard post(s) claiming that Gic @jidesanwoolu has appointed suspended chairman of NURTW MC Oluomo as GM Lagos Transport Parks and garages committee. There is no such appointment. The statement issued yesterday by @gbenga_omo HC info remains position of govt”, he wrote.
In another reaction, Jubril Gawat, a Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on New Media, denied that his Principal ever made such an appointment.
Gawat urged residents of the state to ignore any report of such, stressing that the claim was nothing, but fake news.
“Kindly disregard post(s) claiming that Governor Sanwo-Olu has appointed (the) suspended Chairman of NURTW, MC Oluomo, as GM, Lagos Transport Parks and Garages Committee.
“There’s no such appointment. Media houses posting it are quoting his son as the source of the news”, governor’s aide said in a tweet on Friday.
THEWILL earlier reported that the leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers Union (NURTW) had suspended the union’s chairman in Lagos, MC Oluomo, indefinitely.
The suspension by the national body of the union was announced in a letter dated March 9, 2022, and signed by NURTW General Secretary, Kabiru Yau.
He was accused of acts of insubordination and gross misconduct, as well as plotting to instigate crisis and unleash mayhem on branches of the union in Lagos that refuse to obey his alleged directive not to take orders from NURTW national headquarters.
In a swift reaction, Oluomo announced that the Lagos State chapter of the NURTW had pulled out of the National body.
Following the development, the Lagos State Government in a bid to ensure the safety of residents, immediately suspended the activities of NURTW in all parks and garages across the State.
