August 06, (THEWILL) – The Medical and Dental Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal has suspended 12 doctors, convicted five and directed the Medical and Dental Council to erase names of three doctors from the register of medical practitioners in Nigeria.
The affected medical practitioners were found guity of gross professional misconduct by the tribunal.
The tribunal also struck out charges against seven doctors even as it discharged and aquitted 10 others.
The decisions were contained in the report of the Medical and Dental Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal for the period of 2019 to 2021.
According to the report, the doctors whose names are to be erased are Dr. Yakubu Hassan, Koji-Jimeta Clinic and Maternity, Jimeta Yola; Dr. Sunday Elusoji, University of Benin Teaching Hospital; and Dr. Stephen Oludare, Alniyemola-Philadelphia Specialist Hospital, Apapa, Lagos.
The report hinted that Oludare’s name has been erased from the medical register during the ongoing session of the tribunal.
Those suspended include: Dr. Umar Nasiru Ibrahim – Al Noor Clinic and Maternity, Angwan Rogo, Jos, Plateau State.
For three months suspension (served) are: Dr. Nwikwu Mezie, Vitalis-De Vital Care Hospital, Ojo Lagos State; six months suspension (served), Dr. Jamilu Muhammed – Martha Bamaiyi General Hospital. Zum, Kebbi State; six-monlh suspension (served) and Dr. Musa Danjuma – 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna, three-month suspension (served).
Others are: Dr. Godwin Chukwuma, Madunkor-Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, Delta State, 6months suspension (served), Dr. Anunobi Chijiohe, Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, Delta State.
Those for six months suspension include: Dr. Charles Ikeji, Kefland Family Hospital, Apo Mechanic Village Abuja.
Six months suspension (served) was imposed on: Dr. Terhemba Lan -360 Clinic and Maternity, Mpape, Bwari, FCT. Six months suspension (served), Dr. Mukaila Oyewunmi Oladipo, R-Jolad Hospital, Gbagada Lagos State.
Three months suspension (served) and three others.
However, the charges against seven doctors were struck out for various reasons.
According to the report, the tribunal has held seven sessions within which it has adjudicated over 38 cases segmented in line with its inherent powers.
