August 25, (THEWILL) – The funeral of 22 military personnel, who were among 36 officers killed in a helicopter crash and combat in Niger State on August 14, was held on Friday, at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) had, on Thursday, August 17, confirmed that three officers and 22 soldiers were killed in Niger State. It also put the total number of deceased officers at 36, including the air mission in the crashed helicopter.
Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, confirmed the casualties while giving an update on the ambush of troops in Niger State and an evacuation helicopter that crashed on August 14, 2023.
While some of the deceased officers had already been buried by their families, 22 personnel were buried on Friday, in Abuja.
Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Christopher Gwabin Musa, other service chiefs, rank and file of the Nigerian Armed Forces, as well as families of the deceased, were in attendance.
