May 11, (THEWILL) – The former Minister of Power, Sale Mamman, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), over an alleged N22 billion fraud.
Mamman, who was appointed as minister of Power by President Muhammadu Buhari in August 2019, was sacked on September 1, 2021.
He was arrested early Wednesday and subsequently detained at the headquarters of the EFCC in Abuja.
The arrest, according to competent source familiar with the development, is in connection with the commission’s ongoing investigation into alleged corruption in the execution of some power projects.
Mamman is accused of conspiring with the ministry’s staff in charge of the accounts of the Zungeru and Mambilla Hydro Electric Power projects and diverted N22 billion, which they shared amongst themselves.
THEWILL gathered that the investigations also uncovered properties in Nigeria and overseas linked to the suspects, while millions of Naira and United States dollar were recovered.
The EFCC had yet to release a statement on the arrest of Mamman as at press time.
