September 09, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Civil Authority (NCAA), has refuted claims alleging plans of replacing Lagos airport runway lights with Kano airport lights.
In an official statement issued at the weekend, NCAA stated that the agency has been notified of a report that has gone viral on social media, claiming the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, has ordered the removal of airfield lights at Mallam Aminu Kano International airport, to replace the missing airfield lights at Runway 18R at Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos.
According to the statement signed by the Director General, Civil Aviation, Captain Musa Nuhu, the public should disregard the report, as it is not aware of any directive to remove any of the several airfield light systems at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.
NCAA, the regulatory body of civil aviation in Nigeria, noted that the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, is among the five International airports in the country close to receiving certification as required by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
“The Authority wishes to assure the travelling public that it will leave no stone unturned in ensuring continuous safety of flight operations in all sectors of civil aviation in Nigeria”, NCAA stated.
