June 24, (THEWILL) – The North-East Development Commission (NEDC), in collaboration with the Yobe State Government, has commenced the training of 200 teachers in the southern part of the state to strengthen the education sector.
The training, which began at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Potiskum, brought together participants from various schools across the Yobe South Senatorial District.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Managing Director of NEDC, Mohammed Alkali—represented by the State Coordinator, Prof. Ali Ibrahim Abbas said the initiative is part of a one-week capacity building workshop focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Agriculture (STEMA), as well as effective teaching and learning methodologies for both teachers and school administrators.
He said the aim of the programme is to equip educators with innovative strategies that promote problem-solving, critical thinking, and practical learning in classrooms.
“Our goal is to enhance teachers’ capacity to deliver quality knowledge to students and pupils. The NEDC will continue to complement the efforts of the Yobe State Government in revitalising the education sector,” he stated.
Also speaking at the event, the Yobe State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Abba Idris Adam, commended the NEDC for the initiative and urged participants to embrace modern teaching tools that promote inclusiveness and learning efficiency.
Participants expressed appreciation for the training, which is being facilitated by Spider Network Consultancy Services.
The workshop includes a series of hands-on sessions and group discussions designed to transform classroom instruction and improve learning outcomes.
