July 27, (THEWILL) – Brazilian star, Neymar, will go on trial for fraud and corruption in connection with his 2013 transfer from Santos to Barcelona.
The Brazilian investment group, DIS, who at the time of the transfer owned a portion of the player’s transfer rights, filed the complainant. DIS claims that because parties to the sale concealed its true value, they were given less money than they were entitled to.
Both of Neymar’s parents, former Santos manager, Odilio Rodrigues, and former Barcelona players, are also accused in the case, along with Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu, who were then Barcelona’s president and vice president.
In the past, investigations were conducted in Brazil and Spain to see if any transfer fee had been withheld. In 2017, Neymar denied any misconduct; nevertheless, the Spanish High Court rejected this, and the case will now go to trial.
The proceedings of the trial will commence on October 17 and are due to last until October 31.
