July 9 (THEWILL) — The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) sustained its positive momentum on Thursday, as renewed buying interest in banking and consumer goods stocks lifted key market indicators, adding ₦962 billion to investors’ wealth.

Market capitalisation advanced by 0.62 percent to close at ₦156.547 trillion, from ₦155.585 trillion recorded at the previous session, while the All-Share Index (ASI) gained 1,498.75 basis points, or 0.62 percent, to settle at 243,958.73 points, up from 242,459.98 points.

Investor sentiment remained positive as market breadth closed in the green, with 29 gainers outweighing 25 losers.

Top five gainers

International Breweries Plc appreciated by 10.00 percent, (rising from ₦11.00 to ₦12.10).

First HoldCo Plc gained 9.96 percent, (advancing from ₦63.25 to ₦69.55).

Abbey Mortgage Bank Plc rose 9.88 percent (from ₦8.10 to ₦8.90).

Trans-Nationwide Express Plc climbed 9.76 percent, (increasing from ₦2.97 to ₦3.26).

Honeywell Flour Mills Plc added 9.68 percent, (moving from ₦15.50 to ₦17.00).Nigeria Exchange Group NGX

Top five losers

Thomas Wyatt Nigeria Plc declined by 10.00 percent, (falling from ₦3.00 to ₦2.70).

Geregu Power Plc shed 10.00 percent, (dropping from ₦917.40 to ₦825.70).

McNichols Plc lost 9.76 percent, (easing from ₦6.15 to ₦5.55).

UPDC Plc fell 9.20 percent, (declining from ₦4.35 to ₦3.95).

Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc slipped 8.16 percent, (closing at ₦9.00 from ₦9.80).

Meanwhile, Dangote Cement Plc, HBM Nigeria Plc, Custodian Investment Plc, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, UACN Plc, Champion Breweries Plc and Guinness Nigeria Plc, among other equities, closed unchanged during the session.

The day’s performance reflects sustained investor appetite for selected banking and consumer goods counters, helping the market extend its recent rally despite profit-taking in some heavyweight stocks. Positive market breadth also suggests that buying interest remained broad-based, reinforcing optimism over the near-term outlook for domestic equities.
