
September 15, (THEWILL) — The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) began the week on a strong note, extending last week’s positive sentiment as investors showed buying interest across various sectors. At the close of trading on Monday, September 15, 2025, the market gained N704 billion, with the All-Share Index (ASI) rising by 1,113.31 points, or 0.79%, to settle at 141,659.00 points from 140,545.69 recorded on Friday.
Market capitalisation also increased from N88.92trillion to N89.63 trillion, as renewed investor interest in large and mid-cap stocks helped lift the market.
The overall market breadth was slightly positive, showing continued investor appetite for stocks.
Out of all traded equities:
- 43 stocks gained,
- 38 stocks declined,
- While, 68 stocks remained unchanged.
Among premium board stocks, a few notable companies posted gains:
- Zenith Bank Plc rose by 0.59% to close at N68.00
- Access Holdings Plc gained 0.75%, ending the day at N27.00
- John Holt Plc added 6.71%, closing at N7.96
- Transnational Corporation Plc improved by 1.95% to N46.10
- UPDC Plc went up by 2.94% to N5.76
On the other hand, some premium board stocks closed lower:
- United Bank for Africa (UBA) dropped 0.72%, closing at N48.35
- FBN Holdings Plc declined 2.53% to N30.80
- UAC of Nigeria Plc (UACN) shed 0.81% to end the day at N67.15
A few big names such as Dangote Cement, Airtel Africa, and Guinness Nigeria Plc remained unchanged throughout the session.
From the NGX’s top gainers’ chart, 32 companies recorded percentage gains today.
- LivingTrust Mortgage Bank Plc led the pack with a 9.96% increase.
- eTranzact International Plc followed closely, gaining 9.70%.
Other top-performing stocks include:
- Regency Alliance Insurance (Regalins)
- Northern Nigeria Flour Mills (NNFM)
- Unilever Nigeria Plc
- Multiverse Mining
- May & Baker Plc
- Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (Conhall)
- Cadbury Nigeria Plc
- BUA Foods Plc
These companies saw increased demand across various sectors like fintech, FMCG, and insurance.
Top Losers (by % performance)
Also, 32 stocks closed in the red.
- MCNichols Plc led the losers’ chart with a -9.90% decline.
- Honeywell Flour Mills Plc (HONYFLOUR)followed with a -9.13% drop.
These were the biggest percentage losers for the day on the NGX.
Although the market closed strong, the equal number of gainers and losers shows that investors were trading with caution. Many are shifting their focus between sectors, buying into some stocks while selling others. Gains in key areas like banking, consumer goods, and insurance helped push the market up.
As we move closer to third-quarter earnings season, investors are likely to keep an eye on solid, well-performing companies.
