
July 10 (THEWILL) — The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) closed marginally lower on Friday.
Market capitalisation declined by ₦103 billion to close at ₦156.444 trillion, from ₦156.547 trillion at the previous session.
Similarly, the All-Share Index (ASI) fell by 159.97 points, or 0.07 percent, to close at 243,798.76, compared with 243,958.73 recorded on Thursday.
Investor sentiment remained positive, however, as the market recorded 31 gainers against 28 losers, indicating sustained buying interest in selected stocks despite the overall decline.
Top Gainers
NIDF appreciated by 10.00 percent, (rising from ₦135.00 to ₦148.50).
International Breweries Plc gained 9.92 percent, (advancing from ₦12.10 to ₦13.30).
NEM Insurance Plc climbed 9.61 percent, (increasing from ₦25.50 to ₦27.95).
Jaiz Bank Plc rose 6.36 percent, (from ₦8.65 to ₦9.20).
UPDC Plc added 6.33 percent, (moving from ₦3.95 to ₦4.20).
Top Decliners
Thomas Wyatt Nigeria Plc declined by 10.00 percent, (dropping from ₦2.70 to ₦2.43).
Guinness Nigeria Plc shed 9.99 percent, (falling from ₦365.50 to ₦329.00).
Ikeja Hotel Plc lost 9.96 percent, (easing from ₦47.20 to ₦42.50).
Zicon Insurance Plc (ZICHIS) slipped 9.94 percent, (from ₦29.28 to ₦26.37).
McNichols Plc fell 9.91 percent, (declining from ₦5.55 to ₦5.00).
Meanwhile, Dangote Cement Plc, HBM Nigeria Plc, Custodian Investment Plc, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Champion Breweries Plc and BUA Foods Plc, among others, closed flat during the session.
The market’s slight decline suggests investors continued to lock in gains following recent rallies, although the higher number of advancing stocks points to sustained confidence in fundamentally strong counters.
