June 07, (THEWILL) – Nicki Minaj has been dragged to court over some unpaid bills for custom jewellery.
The rapper is being sued by a West Hollywood jeweller, who stated that they gave out some jewellery to the rapper.
The act is a standard transaction for many celebrities, however, the jeweller claimed some of the pieces came back damaged, which was not part of their deal.
According to TMZ, Minaj’s stylist, Brett Alan Nelson signed a contract with Roseark jewellery store, with Roseark agreeing to loan Minaj jewellery for a public appearance.
According to the contract, Nelson was to return the pieces of jewellery within a week and pay for any damages incurred under his watch.
However, Nelson failed to return the 66 pieces of jewelry by the agreed deadline, and, when he finally did, there were noticeable damage to a set of earrings and a leaf ring.
The jewellery store sent an invoice to Nelson for the damage which was estimated at $26,239.50 plus interest.
The jewelry store also claimed that it has not been paid despite it efforts to collect the money. The lack of response from the rapper’s side made it sue the musician.
While responding to the allegetion, a source close to the rapper claimed everything was returned on time as promised and it was only after items were in the jeweller’s possession for some time that the store complained about a missing stone.
Minaj’s attorney, Jordan Siev, also revealed that they have not received any evidence to show that the jewellery was damaged by the rapper.
“We have not been presented with any evidence that any of the jewellery at issue was damaged by Nicki.
“This lawsuit appears to be nothing more than an ordinary insurance claim by the jeweler designed to generate publicity for itself and extract a payment to which it is not entitled. We will defend the lawsuit vigorously”.
