August 14, (THEWILL) – The United States has commended Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu’s leadership of ECOWAS to restore constitutional order in tin Niger Republic.
US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, gave the commendation in a tweet on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday evening.
“Spoke to Nigerian President Tinubu to commend his leadership of the Economic Community of West African States and discussed shared efforts to restore constitutional order in Niger,” Blinken wrote.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), chaired by the Nigerian leader, had rejected the unconstitutional change of government in Niger.
The regional bloc had imposed a series of sanctions against the coupists and their accomplices and as well activated its standby force for possible military intervention to restore constitutional order in Niger.
