March 21, (THEWILL) – To enhance air connectivity between both countries, Nigeria and Canada have officially signed a Bilateral Air Transport Agreement marking a significant milestone in the aviation sector.
The agreement was signed on Friday during a meeting between the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo and the Canadian High Commissioner, Ambassador Pasquale Salvaggio, in Abuja.
This agreement is expected to enhance air connectivity and strengthen bilateral relations between both nations.
Recently, Keyamo had speed up his plans to further boost growth and development of the aviation sector through collaborations with other countries.
For instance, the Minister, in February this year, signed the amended Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The landmark agreement was executed during the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) 2025, in a high-level meeting with H.E. Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, UAE’s Minister of Economy, solidifying mutual aviation ties between both nations.
Similarly, the Aviation Minister is already in talks with the Algerian government to further initiate how to commence BASA arrangements between Nigeria and Algeria.
Two weeks ago, the Minister equally received the Ambassador of Namibia to Nigeria, H.E. Humphrey D. Geiseb, in his office in Abuja.
Their discussions, THEWILL gathered, revolved around the existing BASA between Nigeria and Namibia and potential collaborations to enhance aviation connectivity between the two nations.
With the efforts Keyamo is making, Aviation stakeholders are of the view that such steps mark a significant step in fostering closer aviation and diplomatic relations between Nigeria other countries.
They affirm that it would also afford partnering countries to remain committed in exploring new opportunities that will benefit their nations’ aviation sectors and promote greater economic cooperation.
