SAN FRANCISCO, March 11, (THEWILL) – Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been declared winner of the Imo State governorship election.
Ihedioha, a former deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, polled 273, 404 votes ahead of Uche Nwosu, the candidate endorsed by state governor Rochas Okorocha, who got 190, 364 votes and Senator Hope Uzodinma of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, who scored 96, 458.
Nwosu ran on the ticket of Action Alliance.
It was however unclear as at press time whether Ihedioha scored the mandatory spread across the local governments of the state as required by the constitution.
Returning officer for the election was Professor Francis Ogbonnaya.
