April 24, (THEWILL) – After a 48-hour industrial action, workers of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) have suspended their strike following a high-level meeting with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on Thursday.
The strike, which began at midnight on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, was aimed at pressing home demands for improved working conditions and remuneration.
Keyamo had earlier pledged to engage with the aggrieved workers in a bid to resolve the issues. He met with the Permanent Secretary, heads of aviation agencies, and leaders of key aviation unions to find a lasting solution to the impasse.
Sources told THEWILL that the Minister’s intervention paved the way for a breakthrough, leading to the suspension of the indefinite strike action.
The hours-long dialogue reportedly ended with both parties reaching a mutually acceptable agreement.
NiMet workers had earlier been directed to down tools nationwide as part of the push for improved welfare packages. With Thursday’s resolution, normal operations are expected to resume across NiMet offices.
