June 11 (THEWILL) — The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission to accelerate digital transformation, expand technology infrastructure, and boost digital skills development across Nigeria’s Southwest region.
The partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Wednesday by the leadership of both organisations, according to a statement issued by NITDA on Thursday.
The agreement is to align national digital policies with regional implementation efforts, leveraging the strengths and resources of both institutions to create a coordinated roadmap for digital development across the six Southwest states.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, NITDA Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa, stressed the importance of regional collaboration in unlocking Nigeria’s vast human capital potential and ensuring broader participation in the digital economy.
According to him, bridging the gap between national policy formulation and regional execution is critical to empowering citizens with the skills and opportunities needed to thrive in a technology-driven world. He added that strategic partnerships remain essential for fostering innovation, driving economic growth, and achieving sustainable development nationwide.
On his part, the Director-General of the DAWN Commission, Dr Seye Oyeleye, described the MoU as a significant step toward advancing digital literacy and innovation across the Southwest. He expressed confidence that the collaboration would deliver tangible benefits to communities and help accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
The partnership will focus on three key areas: expanding digital skills development programmes, strengthening existing innovation hubs and technology ecosystems, and developing a unified regional strategy for digital transformation.
Both organisations noted that the initiative is anchored on a shared commitment to inclusive digital growth, ensuring that underserved communities are not left behind. By combining NITDA’s national mandate with DAWN’s regional reach across Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti states, the partnership is expected to create new economic opportunities and deepen digital inclusion throughout the region.
