SAN FRANCISCO, February 09, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, on Thursday pulled hundreds of Nigerians to make good their earlier notice to stage a protest rally over the state of the nation.

As at press time, the protest code named: ‘national day of action against corruption and for good governance’ is holding simultaneously in Abuja and Lagos. In Abuja, the NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba led the protest from Unity Fountain via Secretariat road to the Aso Villa.

The protesting unionists blocked a side of the popular Ikorodu Road in Yaba area of Lagos as music bands entertained them with songs. Some security operatives were seen appealing to the protesters before the road was unblocked for motorists.

The placards which the protesters carried were tagged ‘End corporate greed’, and contained messages such as: ‘Fight against corruption must be holistic’, ‘In the anti-corruption war; a cow is a cow no sacred cow’, ‘Gagging the media = protecting corruption’.

There was also a banner with the inscription: ‘Good governance, not fuel price increase’, ‘Non-payment of pension = bad governance’.
