October 26, (THEWILL) – The ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State has won all 44 chairmanship positions and all the 484 councillorship seats in the just-concluded local government elections in the state.
The Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), Prof. Sani Lawan Malumfashi, announced the results of the elections at a media briefing, at the commission’s headquarters on Saturday evening.
Malumfashi said the exercise was “largely peaceful and successful in all ramifications.”
“The peaceful conduct of the exercise is a doubtless manifestation of public acceptability of the exercise in terms of credibility, fairness and decency.
“The Commission is also profoundly grateful to the good people of Kano State for their collective support, prayers and expression of positive emotions.
“The Commission therefore deeply appreciates the roles played by the critical stakeholders, notably security agencies, media organisations, leaders of political parties, civil society organisations, religious leaders, community leaders, youth and women organisations, towards the actualisation of grassroots democracy in the state”, he said.
The Chairman added that six political parties participated in the polls namely; AA, AAC, ACCORD, ADC, APM, and NNPP.
THEWILL observed that the two main opposition parties in the state, the APC and the PDP did not partake in the elections.
