July 31, (THEWILL) – Following the fire outbreak which occurred at the popular Hassan Market, Avu, in Owerri West Local Government Area, the Imo state Police Command has cleared air on the incident.
Addressing journalists on Sunday, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Barde, debunked the reports, which he described as misleading, making rounds on social media alleging that hoodlums attacked and burned the popular Hassan Market, which is not true.
He said, “For the purpose of clarity, I wish to inform you that the incident that happened at the market was a fire outbreak that led to loss of properties. No life was lost in the inferno and it’s under investigation and the outcome of our investigation will be made known to the public.”
CP Barde disclosed that Sen. Hope Uzodimma has been informed and he directed arrangements be made for him to meet with those affected.
He reassured the general public of the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, and also advised them to disregard the video, as it is the handiwork of mischief makers who want to cause disaffection in the State.
“I want to use this medium to call on Imolites to disregard the illegal sit-at-home order and go about their lawful businesses without fear of molestation or attack”, he urged.
Also, stating that the Command and other security agencies have placed adequate security measures to checkmate any breach of peace and anyone found complicit, he warned, will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
