NSIB Launches Probe Into Abuja-Kaduna Train Derailment

August 26, (THEWILL) — The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has dispatched a team of investigators to the site of Tuesday’s Abuja-Kaduna train derailment, which occurred at about 11:09 a.m. at KM 49 between Kubwa and Asham stations.

A statement signed by the bureau’s Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, said the team will collect evidence, engage stakeholders, and commence a full probe into the incident.

Preliminary reports indicated that six passengers sustained injuries, though no fatalities were recorded.

“The Bureau sympathises with those injured and extends its support to all passengers affected.

“The investigation will focus on identifying the direct and underlying factors that led to the derailment, with the aim of issuing safety recommendations to prevent a recurrence,” the statement read.

The Director-General of NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., also pledged a thorough investigation.

“We deeply sympathise with all who sustained injuries. The Bureau has deployed investigators to the site to ensure the root cause of this derailment is uncovered.

“Our commitment is to ensure safer rail transport for Nigerians through a transparent and independent investigation,” Badeh said.
