February 27, (THEWILL) — The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has announced a firm deadline for registration in the 2025 oil licensing round, signalling the commencement of another major investment cycle in Nigeria’s upstream petroleum sector.
According to the commission, interested investors and oil companies are required to complete their registration within the stipulated time frame to qualify for participation in the bidding process. The regulator emphasised that only duly registered entities will gain access to detailed data packages and be eligible to submit bids for the available oil blocks.
The 2025 licensing round is part of ongoing efforts to boost exploration and production, attract foreign direct investment, and increase national oil output. NUPRC noted that the exercise will be conducted in line with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), ensuring transparency, competitiveness, and regulatory compliance.
Prospective bidders are expected to meet strict technical and financial requirements, including proof of operational capability, financial capacity, and adherence to environmental and host community standards. The commission also reiterated its commitment to a transparent and digitally driven bidding process.
Industry stakeholders view the upcoming licensing round as a critical opportunity to revitalise upstream activities, especially amid Nigeria’s drive to maximise hydrocarbon resources and strengthen energy security.
NUPRC urged interested parties to adhere strictly to the registration deadline, warning that late submissions will not be considered. Further details on the timeline, bid submission process, and evaluation criteria are expected to be published on the commission’s official channels.
