February 13, (THEWILL) – A former lawmaker in the 8th National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has refuted claims that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi offered N2 billion ‘mobilization fee’ to the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
Sani represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly between 2015 and 2019.
He was reacting to social media reports that the former Anambra governor allegedly offered N2 billion to Christian leaders to facilitate his appearance in churches, as way of support for his presidential ambition.
Although, CAN has since denied the allegation. In a statement issued on Sunday, by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, said CAN maintains its non-partisan stance and will not endorse or mobilise support for any candidate in the upcoming elections.
But in a tweet on Sunday, Sani said the Obi he met recently at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) delegate congress, will not part with such huge amount of money.
He said even the front pockets of the LP’s presidential candidate, have a sealed cover.
“I don’t think Peter can easily part with N2 Billion. Last week we met at the ICC Abuja, venue of the NLC delegate congress, even his front pockets have a sealed cover”, he wrote on his verified Twitter handle, @ShehuSani:
