September 21, (THEWILL) – Barely twenty-four hours after gunmen attacked and killed security operatives in Imo State on Tuesday, two officers of the Police Mobile Force have been killed while another sustained bullet injuries, following an attack by gunmen in Enugu State on Wednesday.
THEWILL gathered that the incident happened at about 7:30pm on Wednesday, along the Udi-Ozalla Road when security operatives attached to the ‘Operation Restore Peace Enugu’ team were on routine patrol.
The officers killed in the attack include Danjuma Joseph, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), and Inspector Abu Elamaje.
A doctor at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku-Ozalla, said the officers were rushed to the facility, where they were confirmed dead.
While their bodies were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary, the injured officer, Inspector Udeme Udomeng, who sustained bullet wounds, was treated and discharged.
The State Police Command has not issued any statement on the incident but a police source, who confirmed the attack, said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing attackers.
“MINE and other Command tactical teams reinforced at the area of incident on cordon and search operation for possible arrest of suspects. Further development shall be communicated,” the source added.
