September 06, (THEWILL) — The All Progressives Congress in Ogun State has dismissed reports circulating on social media and some online platforms that its leaders subject members to ritual oath-taking, describing the claims as false, malicious, and libelous.
In a statement on Friday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olufemi Nuberu, said the allegation was a calculated attempt by faceless individuals to smear the reputation the APC had built through years of hard work.
Nuberu insisted that oath-taking was alien to the party’s system in the state, stressing that the leadership would not engage in practices that contravene constitutional provisions.
“The APC categorically denies the existence of any ritual oath-taking event involving its members or leaders.
“The claims are fabricated, designed to incite disaffection, spread fear, and damage the reputation of the party.
“The event described is a complete fiction, and the party dissociates itself entirely from such irresponsible reporting,” the statement read in part.
He added that as a law-abiding political organisation, the APC conducts its activities strictly within the framework of the Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Act, and its own constitution.
“While oath-taking is a recognised constitutional practice for affirming loyalty and service to the nation, it is strictly regulated by the Oaths Act.
“The APC condemns any action that contravenes these legal and ethical standards,” Nuberu added.
