September 22, (THEWILL) — The Ogun State Government has dismissed allegations that it is deliberately frustrating road projects initiated by former governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, insisting that its position is about coordination and due process, not obstruction.
The clarification was made by Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, during a current affairs programme, Frontline, on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ijebu-Ilese.
Akinmade explained that lawmakers from Ogun usually notify the state government about their constituency projects to aid planning and budgeting, but Senator Daniel failed to follow that process.
He said: “If a project the state is contemplating is already captured in the federal budget, the state government will channel its resources to another road. But when there is no communication, that’s where the problem comes in.”
While appealing to the senator to liaise more closely with the relevant ministry, Akinmade urged contractors handling constituency projects to work in partnership with state agencies, stressing that the government would never intentionally block projects meant to benefit the people.
Highlighting Governor Abiodun’s achievements, Akinmade noted that the administration had completed over 1,200 kilometres of roads across the 20 local governments, including the reconstruction of major federal highways such as the Ijebu-Ode–Epe road.
He said the state’s economy had grown from ₦3.5 trillion in 2019 to ₦16 trillion in 2025, with investors increasingly moving into Sagamu, Papalanto and other industrial hubs.
He also disclosed plans for a Disneyland and entertainment hub to further transform Ogun’s business climate.
According to him, Ogun recorded the lowest food price increase nationwide, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in May 2025. He added that the ongoing renovation of Olumo Rock now generates about ₦20 million weekly.
Describing Ogun as “arguably the most secure state in Nigeria,” Akinmade said the government is collaborating with Lagos on a ₦500 billion agricultural intervention while boosting food supply through farmers’ markets in Abeokuta.
“In the last six years, Ogun State has been the investors’ destination of choice in Nigeria,” Akinmade declared, stressing that Governor Abiodun remains focused on creating opportunities for investors, expanding infrastructure, advancing ICT and sustaining peace and stability.
