September 30, (THEWILL) – The Ogun State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abeokuta, on Saturday, upheld the victory of Governor Dapo Abiodun in the March 18th gubernatorial election in the State.
The judgement followed ruling on the petition filed by Ladi Adebutu, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the March 18th gubernatorial election in Ogun State.
Adebutu and the PDP, in the joint petition marked EPT/OG/GOV/03/2023, accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), of non-compliance with the Electoral Act and corrupt practices during the March 18th gubernatorial election in Ogun State.
The petitioners also alleged that elections were disrupted by thugs in over 99 polling units, disenfranchising over 40,000 voters.
According to him, about 40,891 votes were wrongfully credited to the APC in favour of the governor.
In a judgement on Saturday, a three-member panel of Justices, led by Hamidu Kunaza, dismissed the petition filed by Adebutu.
The tribunal held that the petitioner lacked merit and short of evidences to back up allegations of election fraud.
