March 30, (THEWILL) — Nigeria’s oil and gas sector recorded $17.98 million in capital inflows in 2025, marking a sharp increase from the $5.12 million attracted in 2024, according to the latest capital importation data released by the National Bureau of Statistics.
The figures show that foreign capital entering the hydrocarbon sector more than tripled year-on-year, reflecting renewed investor interest in Nigeria’s energy industry amid ongoing regulatory reforms and efforts to improve the investment climate.
Data from the National Bureau of Statistics indicate that the sector’s inflows rose by over 250 percent, highlighting a gradual return of foreign capital to the industry after several years of subdued investment.
The uptick in capital inflows also coincides with stronger performance in Nigeria’s gas exports. According to the Central Bank of Nigeria, gas export earnings increased by 21 percent to $10.51 billion in 2025, up from $8.66 billion in 2024.
The rise underscores the growing importance of natural gas within Nigeria’s energy mix and its expanding role in supporting the country’s foreign exchange earnings.
Analysts say the increase in capital inflows and export earnings signals improving investor confidence in the sector, particularly as authorities continue to implement reforms aimed at enhancing regulatory clarity, improving project execution, and encouraging greater private sector participation in upstream and gas infrastructure development.
Despite the improvement, industry observers note that overall capital inflows into the sector remain relatively modest compared with Nigeria’s vast hydrocarbon potential, suggesting significant room for further investment as policy stability and project pipelines strengthen.
