August 12, (THEWILL) — Armed men suspected to be bandits have killed one person and abducted several others during an attack on Marnona village in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday while residents were observing morning prayers at a mosque. Security sources said the attackers may have come from camps in forests along the Sokoto–Zamfara border, notorious for harbouring criminal gangs.
The assailants fled before security operatives arrived. Police spokesperson, DSP Ahmed Rufai, said an investigation had been launched and a detailed statement would be issued soon.
Sokoto APC chairman, Isah Achida, described the assault as “barbaric” and “cowardly,” saying it was a direct attack on humanity and faith.
He urged residents to remain united against banditry and assured that the state government was working with security agencies to tackle the menace.
