April 17, (THEWILL) – Governor Samuel Ortom has inaugurated a five-member committee to investigate the alleged dumping of waste material into River Benue by Pure Biotech Company Limited, Makurdi.
Performing the ceremony at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi, on Monday, Governor Ortom decried the situation, noting that his administration cannot afford to sit and allow the health of Benue people to be put in jeopardy by any company.
Denying ownership of the company, Governor Ortom explained that his administration has not granted approval for its establishment in the state, but expressed happiness that such a huge investment has taken off in the state.
The five-man committee, headed by Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr Godwin Oyiwena, are among others, to look at the Environmental Impact Assessment compliance.
The Investigative Committee is to extend their mandate to some companies in Zaki-Biam in Ukum local government areas, as well as those at the Industrial Layout, Makurdi.
Other members of the committee are the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Barr. William Rodney Agbatar; Benue High Tourism Conservative Foundation and one other.
It has today and tomorrow to turn in its findings on Ethanol Company Limited.
