May 15, (THEWILL) – The trio of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Lata Tondon, the Indian, who is currently the world record holder of a cooking marathon, among others, have all shown support for chef Hilda Bassey, aka Hilda Baci, who is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time.
On Sunday afternoon, Sanwo-Olu was physically present at Amore Gardens, Lekki, Lagos, where the cooking marathon is taking place to cheer Hilda, who is fondly called the Jollof queen.
He urged the crowd of supporters present at the event to continue cheering her on and wished her success. He also had a taste of one of the dishes she prepared.
Later on Sunday evening, Tondon cheered Hilda on by dropping a comment on her Instagram Live as well.
Tondon, who became the first woman in the world to set a new Guinness World Record, cooking for 87 hours and 45 minutes non-stop, wrote that she is looking forward to seeing Hilda’s name in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The President-elect, Bola Tinubu, who is currently out of the country, would later show his support by leaving a comment on her Instagram Live.
He wrote, “IDAN doesn’t break, she breaks records. We are rooting for you Hilda.”
Later that same evening, Osinbajo, who couldn’t be physically present, put a call through to Hilda to encourage her.
While a cross-section of Nigerians has openly shown their support, not a few have physically shown up at the venue of the cooking marathon to cheer and encourage her.
There was also a cultural display by Akwa Ibom dancers, who entertained guests and cheered Hilda on.
Some of those who showed up physically include Tiwa Savage, Charles Okocha, Oludipe Oluwasanmi David aka Spyro, and Mr and Mrs Ned Okonkwo of Victoria Crest Homes among several others.
Her parents were also on ground to support her. Her mum runs Calabar Pot, an indoor and outdoor catering services based in Abuja
Hilda, who is the founder of ‘My Food by Hilda’, a fast food restaurant located in Lagos, began the four-day cooking marathon on Thursday at 4pm.
The attempt will see Hilda take an hour break in-between every 12 hours of cooking.
Hilda, who is also an actress and a television producer, has shown her culinary skills on various Television Cook shows and represented Nigeria at the Jollof Faceoff Competition in 2021, emerging as the winner.
