BEVERLY HILLS, April 09, (THEWILL) – There is panic among health workers at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, Edo State, over COVID-19 test results blunder made by some physicians at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, ISTH, in Edo State.
The hospital is in total confusion, following the death of a patient who later tested positive to COVID-19 along with the others, after ‘testing’ negative to the virus earlier.
Currently, doctors, health workers and patients may have been potentially exposed to the risk of COVID-19 infection as the deceased wasn’t in isolation before he died as he was assumed negative based in the results from Irrua.

Confirming the misinformation, a consultant physician at Irrua, in a letter to the Chief Medical Director, explained the events.
According to him, there was a mix-up in his response to a phone conversation he had with a consultant at UBTH on the results sent.
Unknown to him, the tests were carried out in two days while he had been informed previously that they were all negative.
He told the UBTH consultant that the samples tested so far were negative, and on this basis, the patients were moved from the isolation ward to the main ward, while the patient with chronic renal disease was sent to dialysis.
Sadly, it turned out that they were not among the results he was informed about as they were positive.
Upon realisation, he immediately sent the information to UBTH, they now quickly took the patients back to isolation but it appears all the doctors, nurses and nurse assistants who were exposed could be in dang
