October 29, (THEWILL) – The governor of Adamawa state and chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention planning committee, Ahmadu Fintiri, has said only three positions – deputy national chairman (south), national auditor and youth leader – are to be contested at the party’s national convention holding this weekend.
He said Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Taofeek Arapaja are vying for the deputy national chairman position; Okechukwu Obiechina Daniel, Ikechukwu Samben Nwosu and Mrs Chibuogwu Benson-Oraelosi are vying for the national auditor position; Muhammed Kadade Suleiman and Usman Elkudan are vying for the national youth leader position.
Fintiri said the contestants for the 18 seats left on the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) are running unopposed. Fintiri, however, said ballots will be cast for all seats.
The governor also said the poll be an open-secret ballot.
Fintiri, who spoke on Friday at a press conference in Abuja, also disclosed that elected officials that emerge from the convention will resume office December 9, 2021, after the four-year tenure of the present national officers expires on December 8, 2021.
Governor Fintiri also said that the party’s screening appeal panel has affirmed the disqualification of all the aspirants barred from contesting for positions at the convention by the screening committee.
He added that the appeal committee also threw out the petitions filed against Taofeek Arapaja and Samuel Anyanwu, who are vying for the deputy national chairman (south) and national secretary positions, respectively.
The PDP national convention is scheduled for Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31. Over 3600Â delegates are expected to elect new party officers to lead the party for another four years.
The position of the national chairman has already be zoned to the north and by a consensus arrangement, a former senate president, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, has been picked to emerge as the party’s national chairman.
