December 15, (THEWILL) – Former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has urged stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state not to despair, assuring that the party’s leadership is actively seeking a way forward.
Lamido made the appeal during a meeting with Jigawa PDP stakeholders held at his Sharada office in Kano on Monday.
He called on party members to exercise patience and await the outcome of the PDP national leadership meeting scheduled for the end of December.
“The purpose of this meeting is to update you on the current happenings in our party and to urge patience as efforts are ongoing to find a way forward. This gathering is also convened to allay your fears and anxiety, and to assure those of you aspiring for elective positions that you will have a platform to contest,” Lamido said.
The former governor, a long-time PDP stalwart, reaffirmed his loyalty to the party despite what he described as a myriad of injustices against him and his supporters. However, he noted that he and his loyalists remain open to alliances with other political parties, depending on the outcome of the forthcoming national leadership meeting.
Lamido also revealed that he had held consultations with key party figures, including former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who assured him that efforts are underway to find lasting solutions to the party’s challenges.
“By the end of this month, we shall know our next steps. Nevertheless, my loyalists and I remain open to alliances with other political parties,” he stated.
The meeting drew PDP stalwarts, including all state commissioners, 27 local government chairmen, and 30 lawmakers who served during Lamido’s administration. Women leaders and key party stakeholders from all 27 local government areas were also in attendance.
