August 27, (THEWILL) – The Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, Aminu Tambuwal, announced the resolutions of this Friday’s National Caucus meeting of the party in Abuja, saying it had tentatively fixed October 30-31, 2021 to hold the much expected National Convention.
It also appointed former Senate President David Mark to mediate with parties who had gone to court over the prevailing issues and convince them to withdraw their matters and submit their grievances to the party’s internal mechanisms for resolution.
For now regarded merely as a recommendation of a powerful group in the party, the National Convention date will be presented and finalised when the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party meets on Saturday.
Going by the party’s constitution, the convention will feature the election of new officers to run party affairs for the next five years.
The meeting holds amidst controversies swirling around the tenure of the party’s embattled substantive National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus.
As read by Tambuwal, the resolution of the caucus meeting stated that: “We have just risen from our 40th meeting of the national caucus of our great party the PDP, where we have resolved to submit to the NEC of our party tomorrow recommendation from the national working committee for the National Convention of our party to be held between Friday 30th of October to Saturday 31st of October.
“The venue will be determined tomorrow by NEC.
“Also, this distinguished body had empanelled eight distinguished leaders of our party under the able leadership of former President of the Senate Sen. David Mark to interface with our leaders who are involved in these issues of court so that all court matters can be now withdrawn and then for normalcy to continue to return to the party.
“I appeal on behalf of this body to all well meaning members of our party in the interest of the party to shield their sword and let us embrace peace because Nigeria is waiting for PDP and I believe that we have the capacity to resolve whatever issues we have internally.”
Apart from the 13 PDP governors, those in the National Caucus include sitting national legislative officers, current national legislative officers and others.
