SAN FRANCISCO, August 22, (THEWILL) – The national leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday approved and ratified August 31 as the date for the Special National Convention of the party.
Rising from its 62nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting where crucial party matters were considered and resolved, the leadership of the party unanimously approved and ratified the August 31 date for the Special National Convention. It also commended the Special Congresses and Convention Planning Committee for the efforts so far put in place in the preparation for the Convention.
The NE meeting, which held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja and had in attendance the President, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, leaders of the National Assembly, State Governors and other distinguished members of NEC also acknowledged the service of a court injunction restraining the conduct of the South West Zonal Congress earlier scheduled for Saturday, August 24.
Maintaining its avowed disposition to uphold the rule of law and in deference to the court ruling, the party’s NEC therefore approved the postponement of the South West Zonal Congress.
It however directed the National Working Committee (NWC) to follow through the court process and when concluded set a new date for the South West Zonal Congress.
A statement issued by the party’s actin national publicity secretary, Barrister Tony Ceasar Okeke, said the NEC also observed a minute silence in honour of some officials sent to conduct ward congresses in Anambra State who died in a ghastly motor accident recently.
“NEC also paid tribute to the Deputy Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly who also died in a road accident recently and prayed for the repose of the soul of the Gombe State Chairman of PDP, Mr. Jack Gumpy, who passed away recently, “ the statement added.
