January 02, (THEWILL) – The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the suspension of Fatai Adams, Chairman of the party in Ondo State, as illegal, null and void.
The State Working Committee (SWC) of the Party in Ondo State, on Tuesday, suspended Adams over alleged anti-party activities.
A statement signed by nine members of the SWC accused Adams of engaging in activities “likely to bring the party into disrepute.”
“Pursuant to Section 58 (1b, c, f, h and i) of the PDP Constitution as amended in 2017, the State Working Committee has approved the suspension of the State Chairman, Mr Fatai Adams, for anti-party activities and for engaging in activities likely to bring the party to disrepute.
“The party wishes to state emphatically that it will deal decisively with any incursion by the ruling party, the APC, into its ranks,” the SWC said while directing Adams to appear before the party’s state disciplinary committee for further interrogations.
While Adams denied the allegations, saying he was being witch-hunted by some “elements” in the party, a statement issued on Tuesday evening, by Debo Ologunagba, Spokesperson of the PDP, said, “The NWC declares the said suspension as null and void and of no effect, not being consistent with provisions of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017) and laid down Rules.”
Ologunagba said the SWC has no power to suspend a state chairman without “due recourse” to the NWC, as provided by the party’s constitution.
“The PDP is an organised political Party governed by strict adherence to the provisions of its Constitution and Rules and will not allow any individual or group at any level to violate its Constitution and Rules,” he added.
The NWC warned those involved in Adams’ suspension to “retrace their steps” or face “punitive actions.”
