Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

August 05, (THEWILL) – Members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) were on Thursday meeting at its National Secretariat in Abuja in an attempt to resolve the current crisis rocking the  leadership of the party.

The Chairman of the board, Senator Walid Jibrin, summoned the meeting following the resignation of seven elected members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), citing lack of inclusion by the Prince Uche Secondus-led National Working Committee (NWC).

Trustees, who have already arrived for the meeting are: PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, National Secretary; Senator Umar Ibrahim Tsauri and Deputy National Chairman North, Senator Suleiman Nazi; immediate past president of the Senate, Abubakar Bukola Saraki; former president of the Senate, David Mark, and former president of the Senate, Adolphus Ndaneweh Wabara.

Others include former Kaduna State Governor, Ahmed Makarfi; former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu; former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki,, Chief Tom Ikimi, former Katsina State Governor, Ibrahim Shema; former Cross Rivers State Governor, Liyel Imoke; Chief Olisa Metuh,  former Osun State Governor, Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola; former Foreign Affairs minister, Aminu Wali, Senator Ben Obi, Shuaib Oyedokun, among others.

The “conscience of the party” is seeking to douse the tension in the main opposition party now being blamed on a particular governor by the party boss, Secondus.

Meanwhile,  the arrival of  Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, at the meeting, steers surprises.

Governors are not members of the BoT and do not attend the party’s BoT meetings

Governor Wike had walked into the National Executive Committee (NEC) hall where the meeting was being held.

THEWILL reports that Wike has been at loggerheads with Secondus for the past few months and he is widely believed to be the mastermind of ongoing plots to unseat the party chairman from office.
