April 19, (THEWILL) – The Kano State Command has arrested eight suspects for attempting to disrupt the inauguration of four newly-appointed Commissioners at the Government House.

The State Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, who disclosed this on Friday, said the suspects posed a security threat at the Government House while the inauguration presided over by Governor Abba Yusuf was taking place at the Council Chamber.

Gumel warned all miscreants and their sponsors to stay clear as whoever tried to cause a security breach or disrupt the peace where critical government activities and functions are being conducted would be arrested and made to “face the dire consequences of his/her action.”

“Enough of clusters of ‘Yan Jagaliya’ loitering around Government House, Audu Bako Secretariat, similar offices and disrupting governance.

“The leader of the eight thugs, being unrepentant and without remorse, led his team to the venue again and ‘did- the-done’ until he and members met their waterloo of being apprehended by the crime prevention patrol team after sustained vigilance.

“The suspected thugs, who constituted themselves into pressure groups and supporters of one of the infamous politicians, attempted to cause the breakdown of law and order,” he said.

The Commissioner said the suspects are currently at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) where thorough investigations are ongoing to bring them to justice as provided by the law.

“The action of the Kano State Police Command is to further assure members of the public that all necessary measures have been taken to prevent any act that could lead to disruptions of the peace and security in all parts of the State,” he said.

While thanking the people of the state for their support and cooperation, Gumel reiterated the determination of the Command to “ruthlessly deal with any miscreants or their sponsors under whatever guise that try to disrupt the peace.”

He urged all residents of the state to keep reporting any suspicious movement of person(s) or item(s) they come across to the nearest police station or to the State Police Command.
