
January 16, (THEWILL) — The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Suleman Mamuda, for the alleged murder of his 25-year-old wife, Umaima Maidawa, in Bayawa village, Augie Local Government Area.
The Command’s Spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, confirmed that the tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at approximately 6:30 a.m.
Preliminary reports indicate that during a domestic altercation, the suspect allegedly struck his wife with the wooden handle of a hoe, inflicting fatal injuries that led to her death.
Following the attack, Mamuda reportedly fled the community to evade justice.
However, he was later traced and apprehended by police operatives after residents provided credible information regarding his whereabouts.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Mohammed Hadejia, has condemned the act and ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet investigation and subsequent prosecution.
The Police Command has urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report cases of domestic violence or other criminal activities to security agencies.
The CP also emphasized the need for continued community cooperation to sustain peace and security across Kebbi State.
