SAN FRANCISCO, January 19, (THEWILL) – Officers of the Nigerian Police Force, on Thursday, raided the head office of an online news medium, Premium Times, in Abuja.

The officers disclosed that they were acting on a complaint filed by the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai.

The men, dressed in plain clothes, arrested the medium’s publisher, Dapo Olorunyomi, and the medium’s judiciary correspondent, Evelyn Okakwu around 4.30pm.

A search was also conducted at the medium’s office before they were taken away. Dapo and Evelyn were later released minutes before midnight local time.

The website was recently embroiled in a controversy with the army over some negative reports about the Nigerian Army and its operations, which the military said was inaccurate and demanded a retraction, but Premium Times declined.
