
July 9 (THEWILL) — Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Abdullahi Usman of Awe Local Government Area in Nasarawa State in connection with the assassination of a lecturer at the Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, Professor Nyityo, and his younger brother.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Udeme Edet, in a statement in Makurdi on Thursday, said the D. Division received a distress call along Adaka Axis, and on getting there, saw two dead bodies.

“One Prof. Gabriel Saawua Nyityo, ‘m’ 58 years, and his younger brother, one lorngee John Nyityo ‘m’ 19 years, were killed by unknown gunmen”, Udeme stated.
According to the statement, the investigation is still ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects who fled the scene.
THEWILL gathered that Prof. Gabriel Nyityo is a lecturer in the Department of History at Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, and according to reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday at his residence along Naka road, Makurdi.
The motive behind the killing remains unknown, as the attackers struck while the professor was asleep at his residence.
Residents and members of the academic community are calling on security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
